Prepare essential services, support the people in your household, and know when leaving is safer. This six-pillar library uses a ninety-day scenario to test plans—not to promise that every home can safely support a three-month stay.
Follow current local instructions. Leave when directed or when safe temperature, water, sanitation, structure or necessary care cannot be maintained. The calculators are planning arithmetic, not medical, electrical or structural assessments.

Check a function only after confirming supplies, access, instructions and a continuation plan. Do not disable normal safeguards or essential care to practice. Your selections stay on this page only and are not saved.
Water requirements calculator
Prefer paper or a spreadsheet? Use Worksheet 03 in the free preparedness workbook.
Formula: daily gallons = people × gallons/person/day + additional household gallons/day; period total = daily gallons × days. Units are US gallons. The starting rate of 1 is a planning example based on CDC’s emergency-supply guidance, not a universal adequacy guarantee. Include individual, climate, pet and other needs; do not count the same water twice.
Large totals may exceed safe storage capacity. Verify structure, containers, handling and local advisories; plan replenishment or relocation. Never restrict needed water to match a calculator result.
Food inventory and meal plan
Record foods the household tolerates, package quantities, label servings, dietary restrictions, opening instructions, water and cooking requirements, and review dates. Package servings are not a personalized nutrition plan. Count meals that can actually be prepared safely.
| Item | Usable quantity | Preparation needs | After opening | Review/action |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Household-selected food | Read actual package | Water, energy, opener | Follow package instructions | Record date and next step |
Keep cold-storage decisions separate. Follow FDA guidance; never taste food to test safety. A menu that cannot meet necessary needs is a reason to seek assistance or relocate.

Continue the same planning exercise with Worksheet 05 in the free workbook and editable spreadsheet.
Formula: daily device energy = watts × hours/day; add rows, then multiply by planning days. Wh means watt-hours. Enter documented or measured values where possible. The sample values are hypothetical arithmetic, not product tests. Hours are limited to 0–24 per device.
Usable stored energy must be your supported estimate after relevant losses—not automatically the advertised battery capacity. No charging, weather, surge behavior or changing load is modeled. A result does not establish electrical compatibility or medical-device suitability. Follow equipment instructions and qualified advice.
Need more devices? Use the companion worksheet and add each watts × hours result. Zero an unused row. Essential care and alarms take priority over optional demand.

Keep a concise offline plan: household contacts, an agreed out-of-area contact, nearby and alternate meeting arrangements, utility information, care providers and accessible transportation. Confirm consent and availability. A broadcast receiver receives information; it does not necessarily transmit a call for help.
Record a check-in window, backup method and action after missed contact. Keep medical details and account credentials out of a broadly shared sheet. This site does not receive your worksheet data; fill the download on your own device and protect it appropriately.

Follow official evacuation instructions. Move early when essential care, safe temperature, drinking water or sanitation cannot be maintained. Do not delay an urgent exit to collect possessions.
- Confirm a suitable destination and backup, including accessibility and pets.
- Verify current routes and closures; never drive into floodwater.
- Arrange appropriate transport, assistance and a backup contact.
- Carry essential medication information, documents, assistive equipment and manageable supplies when safe.
- Tell a trusted contact the plan privately and agree on check-in.
- Return only when authorities permit and conditions are safe; restored electricity alone is not an all-clear.
